Antoine Guittet, Systems & Network Engineer at Iguana Worldwide is currently attending LINX84 event in London. The LINX Network Community brings together the members of The London Internet Exchange and all those interested in Internet peering and public affairs.

LINX 84 allows stakeholders to “peer” in real life within an active community where every member has a right to vote and the decisions have a deep impact on the way that network infrastructures are connected.antoine

Yesterday, Richard Petrie and John Souter presented LINX NoVA, the first neutral, mutually owned Internet exchange in the Northern Virginia area, which is now fully operational following two weeks of beta traffic trials. The first networks to connect over the exchange were Leaseweb and IX Reach. It provides ISPs, content owners and network operators with the ability to peer Internet traffic from a choice of three different physical data centre locations across the NoVA metro area – Ashburn, Reston and Manassas.

The highlight for us, among the vast array of presentations is that of James Bensley Open source software applications which aim to facilitate network monitoring. We are potentially going to test them at Iguana Worldwide. His first project is about testing the internal quality of the network (dedicated to pretty wide networks); the other project aims to highlight how a network is visible through other networks and then how networks can be linked. It also helps in identifying problems on a specific path. You can follow Smoke Trace conversations and contributions on
